South Brooklyn Marine Terminal
Off-Shore Wind Port
Located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal is a 73 acre NYC owned former break-bulk and container terminal in the heart of NYC that has been closed for over 35 years. In 2019, a joint venture of Red Hook Terminals and Industry City, SSBMT, LP executed a long term lease with the NYCEDC to operate and redevelop the terminal. In March 2022, SSBMT completed a long term agreement with Norwegian Energy company Equinor to reactivate and use the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal as an Offshore Wind staging and assembly port for the construction of Equinor's 3 Giga-Watts of Offshore Wind power to be supplied to NY State, as well as an Operations and Maintenance Base and Point of Interconnection for the first 816 MW of OSW power to be supplied by Equinor's Empire Wind 1 project. With $300 million planned improvements to the terminal in preparation to receive the largest and heaviest offshore wind turbines, blades and towers in production to date, the new SBMT will help create thousands of jobs and billions in economic activity in the city, state and region, and provide clean OSW power to millions of homes and businesses.
